Caccia al rifiuto / Catch the rubbish
Dove trovi i "pezzi" che compongono i tuoi lavori? Ci sono realtà sul territorio (associazioni, sostenitori della raccolta differenziata, gruppi di cittadini...) con cui ti trovi a interagire per attingere materia prima?
Where do you find the "pieces" to assemble your works? Are there local bodies (associations, activists supporting separate garbage collection, groups of citizens...) you happen to interact with to get yourself some raw material?
SB - I miei "fornitori" sono molteplici. In primo luogo, gli amici che mettono da parte ciò che mi può servire, come le bottiglie delle bibite, le scatole delle uova, i barattoli di detersivo, quelli dello yogurt , etc. Poi ci sono i piccoli laboratori che producono rifiuti specifici, per esempio i coni di cartone o gli scarti di PVC, oppure ristoranti e bar che conservano per me i tappi in latta delle bottiglie dell’acqua o i bidoncini di caffè. Uffici e banche mi forniscono i bidoni dell’acqua e i tubi di cartone della carta da plotter, mentre gli infermieri mi danno i tubetti delle flebo scadute e mille altri piccoli oggetti che, arrivati alla data di scadenza, aspettano solo di essere bruciati negli inceneritori, ancora integri e sigillati.
Per assurdo, quando ho chiesto all’azienda che raccoglie i rifiuti nella mia zona il permesso di cercare, nel centro raccolta, dei cestelli di lavatrice per realizzare la base di un attaccapanni, mi e’ stato risposto che e’ assolutamente vietato portare rifiuti fuori dal centro raccolta. Anche presentando una regolare richiesta, si sarebbe passibili di denuncia, perché si compierebbe un “furto”…
SB - My "suppliers" are several. First of all, the friends who store things I could make use of, like beverage bottles, egg cartons, detergent jars, yogurt jars, etc. Then, there are all the specific waste produced by small workshops, e. g. carbon cones or PVC scraps, and otherwise water bottles’ tin-plated crown caps or coffee bins, stored for me by cafe and restaurant’s owners. Employees of offices and banks provide me with water cans and cardboard tubes from the rolls of plotter paper, while staff nurses give me intravenous feeding tubes after the expiration date, and many small objects, yet intact and sealed, that just wait to be burned in incinerator, once their expiration date is past.
Perversely, when I needed some washing machine drums to make a coat rack base, and I ask the company that collects garbage in my area for the authorization to search for them in the collection center, I was told that taking waste away from the collection center is absolutely forbidden. Although making a formal request, you would be liable for a charge, because you would carry out a “theft”...
