International Urban Design Ideas Competition

iscrizione entro 23/07/2004

The Martyrs' Square and the Grand Axis of Beirut is an International Urban Design Ideas Competition consisting of an initial call for ideas from both professionals and students as sanctioned by the International Union of Architects (UIA).

In this first stage, professionals and students will be judged separately. All regulations and guidelines, as well as jury selection, conform to the architectural and planning competition requirements of the UIA.

Solidere, the promoter, opens this competition to both professionals and students in architecture, urban design, urban planning, landscape architecture, and other relevant fields worldwide.

The promoter will award six cash prizes for the category of students in the first stage with a ranking of the first three selected urban ideas and three honorable mentions.

In addition, between 5 and 7 professionals' projects will be selected to continue to the second stage.

Requiring professional accreditation, the second stage of the competition will be restricted to the shortlisted professionals for a more detailed urban and landscape design development of their ideas from the first stage.

Each will be paid a fee for the detailed work that will follow. At completion of the second stage, three winners will be selected and ranked accordingly. They will be awarded cash prizes. Subject to the decision of the competition promoter, the first prize recipient may be eligible for subsequent collaboration to further develop a Detailed Sector Plan for the project area.
