Eleven Magazine annuncia la prima edizione di Biomimicry, un concorso di design internazionale aperto a studenti e professionisti di tutto il mondo concentrato sulla creatività ispirata alla natura. Pensatori, architetti, designer, artisti, accademici e visionari sono invitati a immaginare nuove soluzioni nel campo dell'architettura, della tecnologia, del design e della moda ispirandosi alla Natura, esperta insegnante nel campo dell'innovazione, della sostenibilità e, soprattutto, della bellezza.
Le grandi menti della storia, da Leonardo da Vinci ad Albert Einstein, infatti, sono stati ispirate e guidate dal sistema e dalle creazioni che Madre Natura metteva sotto i loro occhi quotidianamente. Alcune tra le maggiori invenzioni dell'uomo derivano proprio dall'osservazione della natura.
Oggi, pertanto, ci si chiede in che modo essa possa ispirare la prossima generazione di architetti, designer e innovatori e a cosa possa portare un'osservazione diretta e approfondita della sua bellezza.
Nature is the ultimate designer. Resourceful, ingenious, sustainable, beautiful; Nature is a true teacher in innovation.
Some of the brightest minds in history - from Leonardo da Vinci to Albert Einstein - have been inspired and guided by its systems and creations. Some of mankind's biggest inventions have come from observing nature's variety and insightful ways of working and solving problems.
Today, we face a world of challenges in our society. For designers, challenges become opportunities to innovate. But in an era of renewed urgency towards a more sustainable future, how can nature inspire the next generation of designers?
This is where Biomimicry in design really comes into its own. Defined by the Biomimicry Institute as; "an approach to innovation that seeks sustainable solutions to human challenges by emulating nature's time-tested patterns and strategies", Biomimicry can be seen as one of the most fascinating and important methodology a designer can adopt today.
Nature is a balanced ecosystem. By studying its designs, one can extract clever ways of problem solving, which we - as humans - can then translate into our own contexts. Because this is a way of emulating natural processes, Biomimicry assures a more sustainable approach to man-made change; one that is much more in sync with the world we inhabit. Flight, aerodynamics, green energy, fractal designs and advances in material technology are but a small fraction of things we have learnt from studying nature's creations and the systems behind them. Inspiration is everywhere in nature. Whether we can seek it in its beauty or find it in its functionality, Biomimicry in design always leads to fascinating outcomes!
ELIGIBILITY
We invite you - thinkers, architects, designers, artists, academics and visionaries from around the world - to imagine innovative projects in the fields of Architecture, Technology, Design, and Fashion inspired by Nature.
REGISTRATION AND FEES
Participant must register on www.eleven-magazine.com no later than March 11, 2017.
Registration fees are the follows:
- Early Bird: £60 per team
- Standard: £80 per team
- Late Bloomer: £100 per team
SUBMISSION
Proposals must be submitted after registration on www.eleven-magazine.com no later than March 11, 2017.
AWARD
- First Place - The Winner £2,000 cash prize (per team)
Publication in Eleven Magazine and our global media partners.
Induction in Eleven's Hall of Fame.
Invited to take part as jury member in our next competition OR One Free Entry Voucher for future Eleven competitions. - Second Place - The Runner-up £400 cash prize (per team)

SCHEDULE

- 11 October 2016: Eleven's first Biomimicry competition is officially announced.
- 11 November: Competition opens for registration. Early Bird discounted fee applies.
- 1 December: Early Bird discounted fee ends. Standard Registration fee applies.
- 1 March 2017: Standard Registration fee ends. Late fee applies.
- 11 March @ 11AM (UK Time): Competition closes. All entries are due for submission!
- 14 March: Public voting opens online for People's Choice Award.
- 09 May: Public voting closes online for People's Choice Award.
- 11 May: Winners are announced! Time to celebrate!
