La città di Kaunas, in collaborazione con Malcom Reading Consultants, ha lanciato un concorso di progettazione per selezionare i tre migliori progetti per la realizzazione del Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Concert Centre, un luogo per i concerti di respiro internazionale con spazi multifunzionali per conferenze, congressi e simposi nel quartiere centrale di Aleksotas della città di Kaunas, vincitrice del titolo di capitale europea della cultura 2022.
I primi tre classificati riceveranno un premio di 25.000 euro ciascuno.
Kaunas è una città che vanta 12 università e collegi, ha una popolazione giovane e un'atmosfera vibrante, e mira ad accrescere il suo ruolo di centro culturale del baltico. Kaunas è conosciuta per la sua vivace programmazione artistica e musicale, ma alla città - e alla Lituania in generale - manca un luogo importante e di qualità per tutti i grandi eventi pubblici, così come un luogo per le sue imprese in crescita e gli incontri delle comunità accademiche.
I partecipanti sono chiamati a progettare un nuovo simbolo cittadino capace di accogliere sia i residenti che i visitatori internazionali, senza dimenticare il valore di una città nota per il suo ricco patrimonio architettonico.
Il nuovo edificio, di circa 11.750 metri quadrati, dovrà diventare un catalizzatore e rivitalizzare una zona centrale del tessuto urbano. Gli interventi dovranno ricostruire il rapporto con il fiume Nemunas, relazionarsi con il parco pubblico e delineare il carattere aperto e inclusivo della nuova costruzione nei confronti dei cittadini di Kaunas.
I team delle tre proposte selezionate saranno invitati a partecipare ad una successiva procedura il cui fine è la scelta finale del progetto vincente e la relativa squadra che lo svilupperà.
The Kaunas M.K. Čiurlionis Concert Centre International Design Contest is a one-stage anonymous competitive process to select three finalist practices who will each be awarded an honorarium of €25,000.
The competition is organised by London-based competition specialists Malcolm Reading Consultants (MRC). MRC's role in the competition includes writing the brief and competition materials, consulting with stakeholders and ensuring absolute independence in the competition process.
This one-stage anonymous design contest seeks concept designs for the new €30m Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis Concert Centre in Kaunas, Lithuania.
The Concert Centre will comprise: a 1,500-seat Concert Hall of exceptional acoustic quality; a smaller, secondary hall; conferencing facilities; a restaurant, café and bar; back-of-house and office spaces; and underground parking. The new building will sit within a public park and act as a catalyst for the regeneration of a central area, close to Kaunas' historic Old Town.
This one-stage anonymous contest seeks to identify outstanding designs that will result in an emblematic civic building that engages both the local community and international visitors, and is worthy of a city renowned for its rich architectural heritage.
The new Centre, sited on the southern bank of the Nemunas River, is intended to be a catalyst, revitalising a central area which is a historical remnant of the industrial port. The project will begin the wider process of rethinking the city's relationship with the river and the new building will sit within a public park, signalling that this is a place for everyone.
JURY
The competition jury, which will meet in autumn 2017 to assess the schemes, comprises:
Jonas Audéjaitis, Kaunas Faculty Dean, Vilnius Academy of Arts, and Member of Kaunas City Council; Gražina Janulyté-Bernotiené, Architect, Gražinos Janulytés Bernotienés studija; Ingela Larsson, Partner, Architect, Henning Larsen Architects; Povilas Mačiulis, Vice Mayor, Kaunas City Municipality; Edgaras Neniškis, Architect, Arches; Modestas Pitrénas, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra; Daniel Rosbottom, Co-Director, DRDH Architects; and Neill Woodger, Acoustics and Theatre Designer. The jury will be chaired by Malcolm Reading, Architect and Chairman, Malcolm Reading Consultants.
ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all qualified architects.
REGISTRATION
Due to the large number of submissions which are anticipated, competitors are asked to register on the Competition Website to receive a unique registration number, which will be used for identifying your project during the competition, and that will help to ensure a smooth administration process of the competition.
SUBMISSION
In order to complete registration, select the ‘Register' button, enter all the required information and press ‘Submit' on the Competition Website no later than 6 September 2017.
PRIZES
A prize of €25,000 will be awarded to each of the three finalist practices (I - III place winners) on conclusion of the competition.
