In 2008, Yansong Ma of Beijing-based iMAD commissioned ten firms to design the buildings that will form new Huaxi City Centre, near to Guiyang in southern China, on the basis of the master plan elaborated by Shanghai Tongji University. The involved firms are: BIG e Julien De Smedt (Copenhagen), Emergent e Atelier Manferdini (Los Angeles), Serie (London / Bombay), Michel Rojkind (Mexico City), Hou Liang (Shanghai), Mass Studies (Seul), Sou Fujimoto (Tokyo), Dieguez Fridman (Buenos Aires).
