The competition for a scientific base in Antarctica started one year ago. New base of British Antarctic Survey (BAS) will be built by a consortium of engineers and architects from UK. The futuristic 35 milion US dollar estimated project by Faber Maunsell and Hugh Broughton Architects won the competition for the research station Halley VI. The first phase of construction works should start in January 2007 and conclude in December 2008 [BBC].
