The Workspace Group Urbantine Project® emerged from the realisation that there are limited opportunities for unrecognised architects to showcase their ideas three-dimensionally.
Tent London’s fast architecture competition seeks to redress this issue, affording the winning entry the chance to put their design in front of the world's press and the industry’s most influential players during London Design Week at Tent London, Truman Brewery, Brick Lane. The winning entry will also have the opportunity to engage with an organisation, Workspace Group, which aims to provide progressive, appropriate, affordable and considered workspace accommodation for London’s creative industries.
We want you to tackle the issue of rapid change in the 21st century workplace, such as the phenomenal rise in the use of digital technology and its impact on our work and office environments. Tremendous claims are made as to its possible effect on our communication, social interaction, mobility, productivity and creativity.
Write a short scenario and respond to it through your design for a physical installation or pavilion to be constructed within a £10K budget in one of the Tent London buildings at the Truman Brewery during London Design Week.
Maximum dimensions: 6m L x 5m W x 4m H. The structure should provide a space that the public can interact with. Innovative material and creative assembly concepts, such as modularity and preassembly, will be valued. You must be able to assemble your structure in 48 hours and disassemble it within 24 hours, ready for repeat use to enable future exhibition opportunities.
Competition open to all
Step 1: Download Brief, Application Form & Submission Template.
Step 2: Tell as many colleagues as possible.
Step 3: Get designing.
Step 4: Complete application and check that all requirements have been met.
Step 5: Post your application by 10 June 2008.
Step 6: On 18 June 2008, ten short-listed designers will be notified of their success.
Step 7: If you are one of the ten, you will be invited to visit the Tent London offices to talk through how you plan to realise your design safely, in time and on budget.
Step 8: The winner will be announced on 2 July 2008.
